Public Consultation on amendments to the Film and Stage Classification
The Ministry for
Tourism, Culture and the Environment is launching a consultation
process relating to the proposed amendments to the Stage and Film
Classification framework for Malta. The aim of these amendments is
to update Malta’s legislative framework regulating the
classification of films and theatrical and other stage productions.
The proposed
amendments shall harmonise age-classification practices for film in
Malta with established international practices in this field.
Furthermore, it is being proposed that age-classification for
theatre and other stage productions shall become self-regulatory,
based on established and agreed criteria that shall serve as
guidelines for operators in the sector.
A Guidance Board
that shall assist in the formulation and regular updating of these
guidelines, as well as serving as an advisory body for operators
requesting guidance on matters relating to age-classification for
their productions shall also be established. Artists, film and
performing arts practitioners, operators and professionals from the
sector, as well as any organisation or member of the public may send
feedback in writing on the proposed amendments by using the
following email address: classification.mtce@gov.mt
The consultation
process is open until the 7th February 2012.
