members of the general public with information and material relevant to
Government services and activities. The Government
Information Service,
which is committed by Quality Service Charter standards, is available
through the telephone by calling Freephone 153, by means of e-mail via info.doi@gov.mt
and also by fax on21
222 696. E-mail users can subscribe to free of charge Direct
Mailing Services consisting of notices concerning Employment
Opportunities, Scholarships and Public Tenders as well as Press
Releases, Press Photos and Diary of Events.All information is mailed regularly to the subscribers’ e-mail
account. Additionally, Government Information is put online on www.doi.gov.mt
- Press Releases daily on the same date of issue and Employment
Opportunities, Scholarships and Public Tenders on the day they are
published in the Government Gazette. Government Information Service
welcomes members of the public who personally call at its Customer Care
Office at 3, Castille Place, Valletta, to obtain information as well as
to collect literature and other published documents relating to
Government services and activities.
Events:Coordination of facilities afforded to the media as well as
to the general public during State functions, national events, the
President’s and Prime Minister’s official visits abroad, and
General/Local Council Elections. Organisation of the National Pavilion
at the annual International Fair of Malta.
Media
Relations:Media organizations are daily supplied with official Press
Releases, Press coverage previews, notices, photographic material
and other information by means of instant electronic dispatch.
Accreditation facilities, press arrangements as well as guidance and
assistance are given to local and foreign members of the media.
Arrangements are also made for local media representatives
accompanying the President of Malta and the Prime Minister during
official visits abroad.

Electronic
Events Diary:
A monthly Diary of Events
recording Government activities and other events of national importance,
is produced and electronically dispatched to overseas Maltese
Diplomatic Missions, Consulates, ethnic radio stations and Maltese Bank
representatives in Australia and Canada.

Photo
Archives: The archives house a
vast collection of contemporary as well as past photographic material
which dates back to an era when DOI was practically the only information
gathering medium on the island. A selection of archived photos can be
viewed at DOI Photo Gallery.
Photographs depicting a wide variety of topics such as International
Meetings and Conferences held in Malta, State and Official Visits,
National Festivities, National Heritage and aerial views of Malta are
available for sale to the general public. (Order

Sale
of Publications: Publications
sold at DOI include Official Government Publications, the
Malta Government Gazette, Budget Speeches, Financial Estimates and
Economic Surveys, Bills tabled in Parliament, Acts of Parliament, Legal
Notices, Statistical reports and others miscellaneous publications.
MEDIA MONITORING AND ARCHIVING UNIT
Media
Monitoring:
The section monitors the most recent political, economic and social
development issues, reported in the local print media. The media
monitored consists of daily and weekly newspapers.
DOI Library/Archive: The DOI Library contains a collection
of books, newspapers, magazines, publications and historical records
which constitute a primary source of information accumulated over many
years. A considerable part of these records have been collected for
permanent or long-term preservation on grounds of their enduring
historical, cultural or evidentiary value. Considerable efforts are
dedicated to the sorting out of all documentation available and the
compilation of a database of all publications available in the library.
The library is also kept up to date with the purchase of books
/publications.
Press
Registry: Keeps and updates the
register of Newspapers and Broadcasting Services in terms of the
Press
Act.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Plans, implements and manages special
projects undertaken by the Department from time to time.
PHOTOGRAPHIC
SERVICES
Extensive photo coverage is given to
Government activities as well as to national events. These services have
recently been enhanced by the shifting of all processes from
conventional to full digital
photography. Among other advantages this enables faster transmission of
photographic material to the media.
