Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Scholarships offered by the Government of the People’s Republic of China for Postgraduate or Undergraduate Studies in any Discipline 2012/2013 (for Maltese Citizens only) The Government of the People’s Republic of China is offering two (2) scholarships to learn Chinese or engage in postgraduate or advanced studies in any discipline at a Chinese University during the academic year 2012/2013 The Chinese institutions generally use Chinese as an instructional language. Applicants with no command of Chinese are generally required to take Chinese language courses for 1-2 years before their major studies. Travel expenses are not covered by the Scholarship. Applicants are to apply through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Scholarship portal www.scholarships.gov.mt. Kindly note that this portal requires e-ID certification. E-ID registration details may be obtained from www.mygov.mt . All the qualified applicants should log on http://laihua.csc.edu.cn to apply online first. Application forms as indicated below should also be submitted to the Scholarships Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Valletta from 8.30 a.m. to noon and 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. (a) a Curriculum Vitae (b) a copy of the degree(s) obtained; (c) a University/Faculty/School transcript detailing results and grades obtained; (d) MFA Application Form (e) two printed copies of Application Form For Chinese Government Scholarship together with Foreigner Physical Examination Form (f) applicants for postgraduate studies must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. Closing date for these scholarships is by not later than noon of Monday 2nd April 2012 Successful candidates may be required to enter into a contract to serve the Government or the Private Sector of Malta upon completion. OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER Harold Scorey Scholarship in Broadcast Journalism The Harold Scorey Scholarship in Broadcast Journalism is offered annually by the Government of Malta with the aim of improving journalistic standards in the local broadcasting field. The bursary is open to journalists working in the local broadcasting media or aspiring journalists who are interested in developing their skills in broadcast journalism, that is, journalism which portrays news and events through traditional or modern audio/audiovisual media. The scholarship consists of a bursary not exceeding €3,000 and is intended to cover full or partial costs of training (professional courses or attachments) in broadcast journalism. The successful candidate must make use of the scholarship during 2012. All applications will be examined by a board specifically appointed to conduct the selection process. RURAL AFFAIRS International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) 2012-2013 IRENA Scholarship Programme Call for Applications The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is issuing its call for applications for the IRENA Scholarship Programme at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MI) in Abu Dhabi, for the 2012-2013 academic year. The Masdar Institute, established in cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is the world’s first graduate-level university dedicated to providing solutions to issues of sustainability, focusing on advanced energy and sustainable technologies. Masdar’s faculty, students, and staff work in a vibrant research community, integrating technology, policy, and systems. With the support of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, up to twenty IRENA scholarships are offered annually for interested Master of Science students in the eight programmes offered at Masdar Institute: Chemical Engineering, Computing and Information Science, Electrical Power Engineering, Engineering Systems and Management, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, and Water and Environmental Engineering. Special consideration will be given to applicants from developing countries in order to support countries most severely affected by today’s challenges such as energy access, energy security and climate change. The closing date for application is: 31st May, 2012. MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS Scholarships in Contemporary European Studies University of Sussex, UK 2012/2013 (for Maltese Citizens only) The Government of Malta is offering scholarships for academic year 2012/2013 to enable students to participate in an MA course in Contemporary European Studies tenable at the University of Sussex. The course programme covers one academic year commencing in October 2012 and ends in August 2013. Applicants should already have, or expect to have before September 2012, a local or foreign approved university degree (minimum Second Class Upper) in Law, Economics, Management/Commerce/Human Resources, the Social/Political Science, the Humanities, (including Literature), History and Philosophy. The documents listed below should be attached to the application form in duplicate: (a) a Curriculum Vitae indicating the totality of studies pursued as well as the grades obtained. (b) a copy of the degree(s) obtained; (c) a University/Faculty/School transcript detailing results and grades obtained (one original copy to be forwarded to the University of Sussex); (d) a letter of recommendation from two University Professors. The reference form issued by Sussex University should be used. (each letter should be in duplicate and has to be delivered in separately sealed envelopes: one addressed to the University of Sussex and a copy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and annexed to the relevant application form). Applicants are to apply through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Scholarhsip portal www.scholarships.gov.mt. Kindly note that this portal requires e-ID certification. E-ID registration details may be obtained from (www.mygov.mt ). Alternatively application forms are available from the Ministry’s own Website (www.mfa.gov.mt). These are to be submitted in duplicate to the Scholarships Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Palazzo Parisio, Merchants Street, Valletta, from 8.00 a.m. to noon. Closing date for these scholarships is by not later than noon of Thursday 16th February 2012. It should be noted that applicants are also to apply directly to the University of Sussex through their website (www.sussex.ac.uk) proof of this application is to be copied to the Scholarships Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Applications from Government and Parastatal employees and from the Private Sector will not be considered unless recommended by their Head of Department/Parastatal Organisation/employer respectively. Selected candidates will be required to sign an undertaking to the effect that on completion of studies they would be available to work in Malta. They may also be required to enter into a contract to serve the government of Malta upon completion of studies. Late applications will not be considered. MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS Master of Diplomacy and International Relations 2011/2012 (for Maltese citizens only) The public announcement for ‘Interuniversity Master of Diplomacy and International Relations’ at the Spanish Diplomatic School, for 2011/12 has been issued. The official form is to be found on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain: http://www.mae.es/es/MenuPpal/Ministerio/Escuela+Diplomatica and must be submitted to the Embassy of Spain in Malta. Applicants must sit for an entrance examination before 16th April 2012 at the Embassy of Spain for which all applicants will be called. To get the maximum advantage of this Master, applicants must have a high level of Spanish which might be proved by presenting the intermediate level of DELE (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language). Interested applicants who wish to apply for a scholarship to attend this Master must personally ask for it to AECID (Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development). The list of candidates accepted for the Master will be published before 31st May, 2012. The deadline to submit the application and all documentation is 31st January, 2012.
