The Gozo Cultural Council within the Ministry
for Gozo will be presenting a series of events
being launched as the Gran Castello Summer
Nights ’09. The programme will include piano,
jazz and choral concerts, contemporary theatre
and an original musical depicting the siege of
Gozo way back in 1551.
This summer festival, being held at the
historical St. John’s Demi-Bastions in the
Cittadella will kick off on Friday 10th July
with a high calibre piano concert by leading
Maltese pianist Clifford Borg and accompanied by
Gozitan vocalist Miriam Christine Borg.
Clifford Borg, who has performed both locally
and abroad has already established himself as a
secret musical treasure over the past years.
With performances in London, Paris, Amsterdam,
Brussels, Egypt, Italy and Germany, Borg has
made a name for himself on the international as
well as on the local artistic scene. His musical
inclination varies from traditional classical
style to the more contemporary synthesized vein.
Borg launched his second album Origin last
May at the Saint James Cavalier and he proved to
currently be one of the best pianists around,
offering the local audience with enjoyable
chill-out piano music.
He will be playing music from his first
album, Drifted and also from his second launch,
Origin. Local vocalist Miriam Christine Borg
will be featuring alongside Borg with songs from
Billie Holiday, Mia Martini, Amy Winehouse,
Sandy and Junior and Elena Paparizou.
The ‘starlight recital’ will commence at
8.30pm on Friday 10th July 2009 and the entrance
is free. Pre-booking is recommended on: 2155
