Speech by the Hon. Tonio Fenech, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry
of Finance at the inauguration of new offices of 3A Accountants –
Birkirkara – 19 February 2008
It is an honour and at the same time a satisfaction indeed that I am
here to officially inaugurate this new firm of professional
accountants. The Government has envisioned Malta as a centre of
excellence in financial services, as a robust and highly specialised
base for e-gaming, as an attractive jurisdiction for shipping companies,
as a focussed destination for targeted sectors of tourists, and the list
goes on and on.
Our strategy to achieve all this was carefully orchestrated over the
years and one essential ingredient was the highly educated and talented
workforce within the professions, especially in accountancy, finance,
law and banking. It is my pleasure to have with me here today Mr Joe
Zammit Tabona, Chairman of the Accountancy Board and Mr Simon Flynn,
President of the Malta Institute of Accountants, members of the MFSA,
key officials of Banking sector, and many others who have made
Government's strategy achievable, and successful.
Today marks the official inauguration of yet another contributor and
partner within this vision. I understand that 3A has matured from an
interesting corporate finance deal, a management-buy-out of part of MGI
Malta, an established and well respected mid-tier accounting firm of
around 20 years.
I understand that 3A has set its sights on two marketplaces - that of
SME businesses targeting Malta as their base, and that for talent to
contribute knowledge to the business community. Investing in these
attractive and highly functional offices was therefore 3A's next move in
their marketing strategy as with such an infrastructure, they portray
professionalism and an ambience that is both attractive and comfortable
for clients and staff.
Why 3A? I am told that this mark is the result of a careful choice of
words encompassing the core competencies of the firm, namely
Accountancy, Assurance and Advisory. 3A captures the A's of these core
competencies in a simple acronym that is short, and easy to remember. 3A
also captures the A's in the corporate tagline - Your Aspirations, Your
Achievements, Our Aim! So meaningful and creative - it intersects the
core competencies with the focus, mission and values of the firm. A case
where fresh ideas intersect with the long experience within the various
board members and advisors of 3A.
I conclude by welcoming 3A to the community of professional service
firms partnering also with Government and the other players with a
conscious objective of keeping Malta high on the list as a financial
centre of choice. I also wish 3A the best of luck in their ventures, and
I close by declaring these offices and the 3A brand officially
inaugurated.
