Mr Janis Lusis, Ambassador of the Republic of LatviaTO
MALTA
H.E. Mr Jānis (John) Lūsis was born on the 2nd June
1945 in Mengersgereth, Germany and received his schooling in Toronto,
Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Chemical
Engineering and a Master of Applied Science in Materials Science
(Reinforced Plastics) – both degrees from the University of Toronto.
After
graduation, he worked in the Canadian chemical industry in positions
encompassing research and development and operations management. In
1986, Mr Lūsis was appointed second secretary at the Latvian Delegation
in Washington DC, where he was further appointed counselor in 1991.
After
Latvia regained independence in August 1991, he was transferred to Riga,
where he held the position of director of the Administrative Department
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From
1992 till 1996 Jānis Lūsis served as Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of Great
Britain and Northern Ireland. In 1994 he became a concurrent Ambassador
of the Republic of Latvia to Ireland. In 1996, after returning to Riga
he worked as Inspector General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
between 1998 and 1992 served as Ambassador to Canada.
As
of 2002, Mr Jānis Lūsis is serving as Ambassador of the Republic of
Latvia to Italy. The Ambassador is married.
