H.E. Prof. Guido de Marco, President of Malta, this morning received
Mr Anthony Tabone, Consul General of Malta in Dubai, and was presented
with a donation in aid of The Malta Community Chest Fund, from proceeds
collected during an event held recently in Dubai.
The
Charity Dinner, which was held at the Fairmont Hotel Grand Ballroom, was
well attended by several Maltese who travelled purposely to Dubai for
the event. The total amount presented this morning at The Presidential
Palace in Valletta was of Lm 7000.
Consul
General Tabone said that this was the first event organized for the
Maltese community in Dubai and expressed his hope that this will be
maintained as an annual occasion. Whilst thanking The President for
extending his patronage to this event, during which a recorded message
by Prof. Guido de Marco was also delivered, he said that such activities
help in further promoting the social awareness of the Maltese
communities living abroad.
President
Guido de Marco, whilst thanking Mr Tabone for his donation, spoke about
the work being carried out by the Malta Community Chest Fund and the
daily assistance being given to several individuals and philanthropic
institutions in need. He also underlined the importance of Dubai as a
fast growing and important economic hub in the Middle East and the need
to develop even further the good relations between Malta and the region.
This
donation was partly supported by the Maltese business community active
in the Middle East.
