The
Hon. Mario De Marco, LL.M.(Cantab), LL.D., M.P.
Mario de Marco (born October 18, 1965) is a Maltese politician and
academic. He is the son of former President of the Republic of Malta
Guido de Marco. Mario de Marco studied at St Aloysius' College (Malta)
and at the University of Malta where he graduated as a Doctor of Laws
(LL.D.) in 1988. He was awarded a Commonwealth scholarship for academic
achievement and furthered his studies at the University of Cambridge
(Trinity Hall) where he obtained his Masters in Laws (LL.M.) having
specialised in International Commercial Law. He is an International
Commercial Law lecturer at the University of Malta.
Mario de Marco was elected as a Member of Parliament to the House of
Representatives in 2003. He was appointed Vice-Chairman of Committees in
House of Representatives and a member of the Public Accounts Committee
and the Foreign and European Affairs Committee. Following the March 2008
general election, he was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary within the
Office of the Prime Minister and has recently been appointed Minister
for Tourism, Culture and the Environment.
