MRS. GIOVANNA DEBONO, B.A. (Educ.), M.P.

 

Mrs. Giovanna Debono was born in Victoria, Gozo, on the 25th November 1956, daughter of the late Coronato Attard, also member of Parliament from 1965 to 1987 and Anna née Tabone. She completed her studies at the University of Malta from where she obtained a B.A. (Education) degree. From 1981 to 1987 she worked as a teacher with the Education Department in Malta.

In 1987 Mrs. Debono contested the general elections for the first time in the interests of the Nationalist Party, and was elected to Parliament. She has since contested successfully the General Elections of 1992, 1996, 1998 and 2003.

On 17th April, 1995 she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Social Development.

Mrs Giovanna Debono was appointed Minister for Gozo in 1998, a post she was re-appointed to following the General Elections of April 2003 and re-confirmed once again in March 2004.

Mrs Debono is married to Anthony and they have a son and a daughter.
